Paramount recent delaying (for the second time) of two of its major blockbusters for this year, as reported in this article from Variety, represents the last of a long list of delaying, taken by all of the major movie making companies - here is a complete list.
If it's obvious that many industries are struggling with economic problems during these difficult times, it is also true that some companies, like Netflix and Nintendo are growing.
Despise the fact the home-content is growing up in these past months, basically all of the major movie companies preferred to push back their releases, instead of publish them online, as on-demand content, or vod releases.

Why is that? The most obvious answer seems to be: companies have invested millions of dollars in movies, and right now is not profitable enough to use modern release methods to publish those products: it appears to be safer to wait for movie theaters to re-open.
The future of entertaining
The success of Netflix showed to the world that a modern version of entertaining, when original contents are bought directly into our homes, is not only possible, but it can also be very profitable.. Netflix proved that times and times, investing on new contents that are added to its platform each month, and recently announcing the production of a 200 millions movie.
2020 has also seen the rising of many competitors, proving that the industry understood the importance on on-demand entertaining for the future: Apple Tv has produced so far a variety of acclaimed tv series and movies, Disney+ has basically copied the Netflix model, betting on its long list of franchising, from Star Wars, to the Marvel Comics heroes. Peacock and HBO Max are still looking for their niche in the market.
So, what's the future has in store for entertaining? Personally, I believe that the succes of Netflix represents a milestone, a turning point from an antique idea of film industry, where we had to wait for the movie we liked to be released on our hometown movie theater, to a situation in which is the seller that comes to us and make available a range of products that we could like and buy.
Like e-commerce, that changed the traditional way we thought about stores, maybe the same thing is happening right now with entertaining products, and the journey has probably just begun.
